Quick verdict
Pick it if you want a big free list (10,000 subscribers[K2]) or you sell products and need automations: Creator is $33/mo billed yearly at 1,000 subscribers.[K1] Skip it if paid subscriptions are your main income: beehiiv's paid plans take 0% of them, against Kit's 3.5% + 30c.[B1][K1] It meets 9 of 10 points on our newsletter checklist (how it's scored). That's a checklist score, not a hands-on test.
What Kit is
Kit (formerly ConvertKit; convertkit.com now redirects to kit.com[K3]) is an email platform built for creators: sign-up forms and landing pages, newsletters, automations, and selling digital products and paid subscriptions straight from your list.[K1] This review covers its three self-serve plans (Free, Creator and Pro) as published on Kit's own pages.
Pros and cons
What's good
- Free up to 10,000 subscribers, with unlimited forms, landing pages and broadcasts [K2]
- No sending limits on any plan [K1]
- You can sell on Free: digital products, paid newsletters and recurring subscriptions [K1][K2]
- Creator is $33/mo billed yearly at 1,000 subscribers and adds unlimited automations, sequences and branding removal [K1]
- 14-day trial, no card, a refund within your first 30 days, and free migration on paid plans [K1]
What's not
- Automations and sequences need a paid plan. Free can't run a welcome sequence [K2]
- 3.5% + 30c on every sale, on all plans (card processing included) [K1]
- 23.5% fee on Paid Recommendations earnings [K1]
- Past 10,000 subscribers on Free you must upgrade to keep sending [K2]
- One user on Free, two on Creator [K1]
Who it's for
Creators who sell things (courses, downloads, coaching, a paid newsletter) and want email automations that react to what subscribers do. Also anyone who wants the biggest free list: 10,000 subscribers is four times beehiiv's 2,500.[K2][B1]
Who should skip it
If you run a newsletter-first business and charge for subscriptions, beehiiv's paid plans take 0% of subscription revenue (plus Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30), against Kit's 3.5% + 30c.[B1][K1] At small volumes that gap is cents per sale; at scale it adds up, so do the sum for your own price.
Kit pricing in 2026
| Plan (1,000 subscribers) | Price shown | Main additions |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, up to 10,000 subscribers | Forms, landing pages, broadcasts, tagging, digital products and subscriptions[K1][K2] |
| Creator | $33/mo, $390 billed yearly (“save $78 per year”) | Unlimited visual automations and sequences, RSS campaigns, 100+ apps, remove Kit branding, 2 users, 24/7 email and chat support[K1] |
| Pro | $66 crossed out, $50/mo, $593 billed for the first year (limited-time offer) | Everything in Creator, plus unlimited users, deliverability reporting, engagement scoring, a newsletter referral system (a SparkLoop plan) and priority support[K1] |
From Kit's pricing page on 1 Nov 2026, at the 1,000-subscriber setting with yearly billing.[K1] Prices rise with list size on Kit's slider; we've only listed the 1,000-subscriber prices we captured. The page showed prices in dollars without naming a currency, and we read them as US dollars, like the rest of our Kit coverage. Kit says yearly billing saves 17%, but we didn't capture the month-to-month price. Check the price and currency at checkout, and whether GST is added.
The Pro offer: read the fine print
Kit labels Pro's yearly price a “limited time Pro offer” with an “extra 25% off first year”. Its footnote says the discount applies only to your first year of Pro, and the plan then renews at the standard rate.[K1] We couldn't see an end date on the page we loaded. You may have read that it ends on a particular day, but we couldn't confirm that, so treat it as able to end at any time and check Kit's page before you count on it.
Start on Free, move to Creator when you need automations
Free covers 10,000 subscribers and lets you sell. Creator is the cheapest plan with automations and sequences.[K1][K2]
The Free plan in detail
Kit's help centre lists what Free includes and what it doesn't:[K2]
| Included on Free | Needs Creator or Pro |
|---|---|
| Up to 10,000 subscribers | Visual automations and the automation template library |
| Unlimited forms, landing pages and broadcasts | Email sequences |
| Tagging and segmentation | Rules and RSS campaigns |
| Digital products and subscriptions | AI Connectors |
| A/B testing on broadcasts | Paid apps in the Kit App Store |
| Creator Network recommendations, and API access | Earning from Paid Recommendations |
Free-plan support requests are answered within 24 hours, in the order they arrive.[K2] If you downgrade from a paid plan, your automations and sequences stay in your account but stop running until you upgrade again.[K2]
Selling with Kit: the fees
- Digital products and subscriptions: 3.5% + 30c per transaction on every plan. Kit says that includes card processing and that its own share is 0.6%.[K1]
- Paid Recommendations (getting paid to recommend other newsletters): Creator and Pro only, and Kit keeps 23.5% of those earnings.[K1]
- Newsletter sponsorships: Kit matches you with brands and you approve every ad. That's on Creator and Pro.[K1]
For comparison, beehiiv takes 0% of paid subscriptions on its paid plans, and Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30 applies. beehiiv's Free plan can't sell paid subscriptions at all.[B1]

Same checklist we use for every newsletter platform, including beehiiv (8.0). It scores what the official pages promise, not deliverability, support or how the editor feels to use, which we haven't tested. Kit's sponsorship matching counts as an ad network here; if you only want a classic ad marketplace, check Kit's page.
